December...The Month of Giving

I love December for many reasons: it is my birthday month and Christmas. It is the one month that people have a heart for giving, but I do wish every month was identical to this month. As a Christian, I celebrate the Lord's birth and what it means to me. I just celebrated my birthday on Monday. I went to visit my folks this past weekend in New Mexico (a present from my hubby) and took my grandbaby, Ella, and daughter, Rachel with me.

We had a great time, but I wouldn't recommend traveling on one's birthday...a little stressful. We had help with our baggage on the way out but not so much on the way back which is when we needed it the and mamma tired. I know my daughter looks pretty young here...she is actually 25 yrs. old but  she doesn't look it.

In celebrating the joy of Christmas, my birthday, and because I was one of the lucky winners of Lori Anderson's Virtual Craft Show, I am having a giveaway.

All you have to do for a chance to win this holiday (Mokume Gane) polymer clay jewelry set is leave a comment on my blog letting me know why the month of December is your favorite month too. I will be picking a winner on the 19th.

Oh, want to see what I won on Lori Anderson's Virtual Craft Show?  A beautiful pendant/necklace handmade by Kathy Pieprzyk from YorkAvenueStudio.

Kathy creates some beautiful artisan sterling silver and gemstone jewelry. I ended up purchasing some beautiful silver hoop earrings to go with the beautiful pendant.

Please, if you have some time take a look at all her beautiful creations on her Etsy store, here!

When I returned on Monday from my trip, I was greeted with cards from my family and so many birthday wishes on Facebook that my heart was so full. I am so blessed to have so many wonderful friends and such a loving family!

So, don't forget to leave a comment. Thanks for stopping by and have an awesome day!

Well, today is the big reveal for Art Bead Scene Ornament Blog Hop!

As you can see, my ornament has two images that were transferred onto polymer clay (Faux Porcelain technique), then I added the wire, beads, and bells. I had such fun making this ornament. Thank you Heather Powers for hosting this ornament blog hop!  What a nice way to celebrate the Christmas season!

Please, if you have a chance, take a look at all the wonderful ornaments created by some really talented artists. Here is a list of all the participants. Thanks for stopping by and have an awesome day!

Faux Porcelain beads and A Sneak Peek

Art Bead Scene is hosting an ornament blog hop and I am late posting a sneak peek of my ornament. The actual bead was done a week ago! I guess too many things going on lately. For the past few weeks I have been playing around with polymer clay and creating faux porcelain beads. Some years ago, I took a class with the wonderful Deborah Anderson and learned how to make Faux porcelain beads out of polymer clay. I'd probably consider it one of my favorite techniques to play around with. Here are a few examples of some beads that I made in the last week or so.

They take some time to make, since both sides of the beads have images with a thin layer of translucent clay. I was getting to the very last of my clay I'm thinking that is why the colors are a little softer rather than clearer which is what should really happen, but I like them anyway.

Well, here is a sneak peek of my ornament and components.

I will show you the other side of the bead on Dec. 7th, the big reveal and the blog hop. So, please come back on Dec. 7th! In the meantime, thanks for stopping by and have an awesome day!
